ADAPTING DESIGN TO ONGOING PROJECT'S FINDINGS
I have been involved in refurbishing old properties for a number of years now and I know how it is important to be able to adapt your design to whatever it is found in situ.
Adapting design and colour palettes ensures that the design still works without compromising the style and ensuring that any original features and elements are kept in order to maximise profits and minimising expenditures.
As an example, I would like to bring one of my latest projects where the kitchen design needed to adapt to what we found under a layer of self-leveling compound.
The original design included a blue and white geometric scheme as eye grabbing feature for the kitchen area. The tiles had been kept from another project and stored waiting for the right time to use them.
However, the kitchen floor found under the poured compound had the most gorgeous original tiles in a very trendy muted mustard colour.
“As an example I would like to bring one of my latest projects where the kitchen design needed to adapt to what we found under a layer of self-levelling compound.”
While work was still being carried out in other areas, the kitchen tiles were revealed and cleaned up and new tiles were sourced for the kitchen splash back. It did mean spending a little chunk of the budget on new wall tiles but it also meant saving a larger chunk of money for kitchen floor re levelling and flooring.
I adapted the design color palette to the new finding. I personally could not possibly ignore some original features (in my own project).
I always work with mood-boards and visualisations to make sure the result is what I want.
I use photos of the real space to make sure that the overall final space is harmonious and well balanced.
It helps me a great deal. It helps my clients a great deal when I design their spaces too.
